We know choosing music lessons is an important decision. Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often from parents, homeschool communities, and adult learners throughout Central Florida.
1. What age should my child start lessons?
Children can begin enjoying musical exposure and enrichment from infancy through early childhood. Formal vocal or instrumental instruction is typically recommended between 4–6 years of age, when motor development, attention span, and cognitive readiness better support structured learning. Every child develops differently, so we're happy to discuss the best starting point for your family.2. Do I need to own an instrument before starting?
Yes. Students should have access to their instrument before lessons begin to encourage consistent practice and steady progress at home. If you're unsure where to start, we're happy to help you choose or rent a quality instrument that fits your budget and educational needs.3. Do you offer online, in-home, and in-studio lessons?
Yes! We offer online, in-home, and in-studio lessons, depending on location and availability. Please contact us to discuss scheduling and determine which option is the best fit for your family.4. What instruments and subjects do you teach?

5. How long are lessons, and how often do students meet?
Lessons are offered in 30, 45, and 60-minute sessions, with additional time available in 15-minute increments when appropriate. Students may meet: - Twice per week - Once per week - Every other week Lesson frequency is determined by each student's age, goals, curriculum, and experience level.6. How does tuition, billing, and enrollment work?
Tuition is billed at the beginning of each month, and enrollment is based on renewable three-month terms. Families and students may choose to pay: 1. Monthly 2. In full for the three-month term Enrollment reserves your weekly lesson time for the duration of your contract, providing consistency and continued progress.7. What is your cancellation and makeup lesson policy?
We kindly ask that cancellations be made at least 48 hours in advance, except in cases of emergency. When possible, makeup lessons may be scheduled within the student's current three-month enrollment period, based on instructor availability.8. Can siblings or small groups take lessons together?
Yes! Siblings and small groups may be able to participate in shared lessons depending on the students' ages, instruments, and educational goals.

Yes! The New Song Academy is an approved Step Up For Students provider. Eligible families may use approved scholarship funds toward qualifying music instruction. Please locate our provider profile through your parent portal, or contact us if you have any questions about the enrollment process.10. Do you work with homeschool, gifted, and neurodiverse learners?
The New Song Academy proudly serves students from a variety of educational backgrounds, including homeschool, hybrid, charter, private, and public school settings. We also have experience working with gifted learners and students with diverse learning profiles, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and other neurodiverse needs. Lessons are thoughtfully adapted to each student's learning style, emphasizing patience, flexibility, clear communication, and meaningful growth.11. What should I expect during the first lesson?
The first lesson is an opportunity for us to get to know you or your child, discuss additional goals, establish a learning plan, and begin foundational instruction. Depending on the instrument, we may also cover proper instrument care, posture, wellness, and practice strategies. Please bring: 1. Your instrument 2. Instrument case and care supplies 3. Lesson book (if applicable) 4. A notebook for lesson notes and practice assignments 5. A folder or binder for sheet music 6. Any additional materials discussed prior to your lesson
